About Us

Our company, like so many was started to fulfill a need.

In 2005, I took my beloved cocker spaniel, Lacey, who was now 10 years old in for her routine annual vet exam.  During this exam I discussed changing her from a Science Diet kibble food to a product I had been researching that promoted food that was preservative free and designed to help overweight dogs lose excess weight naturally. Lacey has always battled a thyroid problem and was about 7-9 pounds overweight, which was aggravating her arthritis. No matter how much we cut back her food, the weight was not coming off.

Lacey was seeing a new vet and she recommended we run a Full Blood Panel since she is now a senior dog.  The vet called back a couple days later with the results.  Lacey's blood work showed both elevated liver and pancreas levels.  Even though the vet assured me the levels were not serious, we did need to address them.  Lacey was scheduled to have a follow up appointment two days later to discuss her treatment plan.

After the devastating call I felt it necessary to do some research and learn as much as possible before our next appointment.  I found several websites that provided information on both canine liver and pancreas problems. The one piece of information they had in common was the first step to managing these diseases is a healthy wholesome diet made with human grade foods.

At our appointment I discussed in depth what my research had taught me regarding supplements and nutrition.  I asked if Lacey would do better on a home cooked diet?  She responded by saying "If you are willing to cook for Lacey that would be ideal.  Most owners I work with don't want to because it is time consuming and can be a lot of work". This was all I needed to hear; I knew the days of opening a bag of dry dog food to feed Lacey were over. I couldn't imagine not giving her what she needed to fight these diseases.

I never thought I would become a gourmet cook for my dog.  But, the love and bond I have with her inspired me to do so and I have NO REGRETS!

In 2006, Lacey's doing much better.  She has lost the extra weight just by eating the wholesome diet I prepare for her. Her blood levels are much improved and everyone comments on how much younger and healthier she looks. She's gone from a grumpy lethargic old dog to a playful, take me for walks companion. Everyone kept asking me what changed?  I told them "I've been home cooking for Lacey since her liver and pancreas diagnosis last year.

The longer I cooked for Lacey, the more I saw how much she was really benefitting from my efforts. I became more and more intrigued with canine diet, nutrition and it's benefits.  What a dramatic change we can make in our furry family members just by giving them a simple change. I started giving samples
of the home made food and treats I made for Lacey to friends and family. The dogs loved them, but they didn't want to take the time to cook for their pets. However, they did want to continue to provide them with a healthier diet.  This is how Gourmet Doggie Diner was born.
